kawasaki kx 65
« on: November 04, 2009, 03:28:29 PM »

hi guys
ive just bought an 05 model kx for my wee fella's xmas .
Looking for some advice on petrol /oil mix im sure the recomended mix is 36 to 1 according to kawasaki.
Not having much expierence of 2 stroke's i was wondering if any one on here has ,  and what mix would be best as in the past most 2 strokes ive been around were running 50 to 1 mix.
he wont be racing the bike to begin with as he will just be learning ( first bike ) .
The idea is if he takes to it then maybe get him into the local motox club .

Though he has been on bikes before they have mainly been semi auto's so figured if he is going to learn he is best learning how to ride properly ie gears etc.
Any other tips advice welcome.

thanks in advance

Hi

I have always had 2 stroke mx bikes, the last was an 07 honda 125 which I ran at 32:1 fully synthetic and it was fine but I know what you are saying, years ago I always ran all my 2 strokes on 40:1 including 125s and 250s and that was the norm, had a spell away from mx and when re-started it had all changed.

We ran 40:1 to help stop them choking at lower revs but I guess with modern synthetic oils it helps against that, certainly never had a problem with the last Honda.

Try using good quality fully synth at 36:1 and see how it goes, I guess you could go to 40:1 if it gets choked up but keep an eye on the jetting and plugs so you know its not running too lean.

My oldest son races but he made the moved to 4 strokes back in 2004 and now has an 09 yam 450, good powerfull bikes but you cant beat the sound of a 2 stroke being rid hard

hi
i work for corby kawasaki, we sell more kx`s than anyone and have for donkeys years.

you need to mix it at 40:1 so thats 125ml of a good oil (we use putoline mx7) to 5 litres of petrol

anything you need to know just ask, we also keep more parts in stock than anyone.
