Hi Hammy

Quote
and one of the worst performing exhausts there are

the only exhaust i have ever seen better results from is Arata

or do you mean specifically on the ZX10R D6/D7 ?

My last 5 bikes have used Akra full systems and 2 Arata's

sorry but don't get that statement unless it's specifically aimed at the 2nd gen 10R

It's really just a clever advert mate.

Someone thinks oooh, I'd like a nice set of Akras for me 10, let's see if there's any available on that there ebay.

They log in, search for ZX-10R & Akrapovic, click on this listing & lo & behold they're presented with a (possibly) tempting alternative.

Simples!  :icon_thumright:

Rick I mean Racefit exhausts on any bike. Not talking about Akra or any of the other main manufacturers.
I know of several dyno guys that refuse to run them as they are too noisy, perform badly and on 2 occasions I know of have caused burnt valves.
They look nice, the "one off" stuff is well made, but they have no R&D put into them for performance at all. Hence them performing badly.

Andy, back pressure is a fact not tosh. Yes at peak power and revs its not an issue (i.e a race bike), but lower down and at road speeds you need the scavenging effects it gives to clear the gasses or you can end up with a dirty mix and burnt valves. Thats why the manufacturers spend millions on R&D making sure that header length and exhaust shape/size/design is right to clear it as well as emissions and noise.

Yep and the most important part is the header primarys and configuration ie 4 into 1 or 2 into 1. This dictates the pulse tuning and helps draw in more of the inlet charge into a cylinder.   If you look at all slip ons they are of a straight through design.  Every exhaust design is a compromise none will work well at all revs.
As for valves burning out that's much more likely to be due to reduced exhaust valve clearances meaning the valve doesn't close properly which exposes the valve seat to the combustion process
