hopefully it will be 3 points but this is a minimum amount that can be issued they can issue upto 6 points but i guess this depends on conditions etc etc and what speed you were actually caught doing

Magistrates guidelines  for 88 in a 60 is 4-6 points & a fine, if over 90 then it's 6 points or consider a ban.

But by the sounds of it, you're concern is that because you've only had a licence for 10 months that 6 points means in the 1st 2 years means you'll lose your licence &  also have to retake your test(s) on top of all that.  The 2 year period however starts from when you obtain your first full licence, so if you've had a car one for over 2 years then the 6 point rule doesn't apply.

But if it was just a hand held laser & they didn't stop you there & then, I don't think you have anything to worry about.

The 2 year probation period starts from the date you pass your first test & once you've held that for 2 years never re-applies (unless you're forced by the court to re-take them after say losing your licence for dangerous driving), doesn't matter how many other tests you take later for additional entitlements.

So if he's held a car licence for over 2 years then he's on a 12 point limit not 6, same applies to you, so if you've held a full bike or car licence for more than 2 years, the fact that you've just passed your HGV makes no difference, you have to hit 12 points before they can ban you under the totting up procedure.

Unless there's some specific law for HGV/PSV licences due to the potential for damage something so big & heavy possesses ?   :dontknow:
