Head north on the A6,go up though shap,and when you get to the A66 at penrith turn right and follow signs for Alston,then Hartside hill top is sign posted,,,,,just keep an eye out for plod.......

totally agree, thats why i don't go up there now, have seen more head-ons involving bikes up there than straight offs!
