MCN said the best 1000cc last year was the Honda Fireblade but they tested the 09 R1 against the Blade and the R1 came out on-top.. It has a lot to do with Yamaha using MotoGP technology like the new Crossplane Crank shaft system which gives better acceleration out of corners with better torque.. some Interesting stuff on the new R1 but would love to see it go up against the ZX10R.. (no wonder its so expensive!!)

It actually has less torque and less power than the blade and last years r1,the blade beats it 40-120 in 6th, my mate's just got a white one with the pink' frame. I will be out with him when the weather gets a bit better and will let you know what it's like in roll ons and flat out acceleration.
According to PB they think that yamaha could have fucked up, the 1198 ducati has more torque and 35 bhp up at 6000 revs. They seem to say that the 08 is a better bike.
I think there is going to be a lot of diferent opinions this year.I personally think it's pig ugly and sounds like it's running on three cylinders!!!!

to be honest the black and Blue one's at a glance look just like the 07/08 one's.

to be honest, the looks of the new one is growing on me and jh has had r1's for ten years including an 04,05 and an 07 and he reckons the new one is far superior to the 08 model.
his has got akros on and sounds fantastic when you follow it!
