GUTTED!!!!

I think I have finally got to the bottom of an ongoing problem with the battery discharging on my 08 10R... The battery was losing around a volt a day if not on charge with an oximiser. I measured 70mA current draw with the ignition off - apparently the datatool alarm fitted draws between 2 & 4 mA depending on whether it's charging it's internal battery. As I understand it, with the ignition off the only things that may draw current are the alarm, the ignition or the rectifier ( assuming there is a degrading component in the rectifier) - a 4th could be a slight short to earth with a trapped wire perhaps. Regulator was kicking out 14.7V which is about right.
Anyway got back to my brothers yesterday (Clam Jowster) after a bute ride and decided to check the battery voltage as I was doing this there was a slight burning smell  followed by smoke issuing from between the tank and frame   :shock:so I quickly removed the live terminal from the battery.
I later started the bike again with the RAC and checked the regulator output 0v....
Whether the alarm is to do with the problem or it was the regulator from start I have yet to find out.

My bike is now in Cornwall Kawasaki centre awaiting collection sometime next week - destination Swindon where I bought the bike and hopefully the end of the problem - when it's repaired :-S

To top it all my brother and brother in law are out and about testing the new mapping on the Power Commander III which I spent 3 hours trying to get the laptop to recognise it ( needed 3.1.2 Software update )

Shit happens a lot :-P
