I think it was sn4 - 2009........ 27.4.09.  I read it the same way as geemonster, as per my earlier post, but the SN is not the best worded document. You have to read it a couple of times to work out what's relevant and what is now obsolete.

I test at a different garage to where our workshop is so will re-read next time I'm down there.

Agreed its not the most visualy written and straight forward of documents. The obsolete bits are at the lower box sections

I'd be the first to say I read it wrong so was baffled, usually I steam in without reading warnings and advice tips haha. Good job I'm not a Tester. Got people fired up though I must admit!! My bikes still gonna fail though due to noisy unbaffled racefit and monster background on the plate...boohoo!!!

 :tongue2:

Maybe I read the VOSA wrongly, but I read it as the following: bikes registered from sept 2001,  honeycomb and non standard country type logos, as well as background shadows etc were a failure, BUT the ruling about postcodes and suppliers name is now obsolete and there is no longer a rfr (reason for refusal) for postcodes and suppliers name and therefore CANNOT BE FAILED FOR THESE REASONS.

I'll have another read before I do another mot but I'm sure that's the case.

Well that's cleared that up then.

I'm a friendly MOT tester by the way. :icon_thumleft:

So was I right then? Haven't had a chance to re-read it yet.

Thanks. If you could post it up then maybe we could have a vote as to what we (the 10 massive) think it means.

It's never straightforward. Most of the MOT stuff is now open to interpretation.......... noisy race cans for one.

right, had a good read through the special notice today

as of the 27th april 2009 some of the rules on nunberplate regulations ARE reinstated, here it is word for word

Reinstatment of certain registration plate checks

Following the suspension of certain registration plate checks in Novemeber 2007, a number of the suspeneded Methods of Inspection and Reasons for Rejection are to be reintroduced from the 27th April 2009.

The Sections of the Manual this applies to are:       Class I, II, III, IV & VII Section 6.3
                                                                                                     Class V section 6.12

The references in the following table list the specfic Reasons for Rejection to be re-introduced and which will be available for selection on the VTS Device from 27th April 2009

  • A front reg plate does not have the black characters on a white background

A rear reg plate does not have black characters on a yellow background

The reg plate background overprinted or shadowed with text e.g. vehicle manufacturer name

The reg plate obviously displaying a honeycomb or similar effect background

A reg plate with a non-reflective border obviously wider than permitted or positioned too close to the characters

The references in the following table list the specific Reasons for Rejection which are now OBSOLETE and will remain UNAVAILABLE for selection

  • A reg plate obviously not displaying the name and postcode of the supplying outlet

A reg plate obviously not displaying a BSAU 145d marking

A dual purpose reg plate displaying a symbol other than an acceptable international symbol or flag
