Tyre sizes 190/55/17 and 190/50/17
« on: April 21, 2009, 11:12:08 AM »

right does anyone have the anser to this please.

i am looking at possibly getting some diablo supercorsas, however they are a 55 profile
and my standard on my 05 10r is 50.

now i realise the profile is a percentage of the width of the tyre.

so a 190 50 makes the hight 95mm right,
and a 190 55 makes the hieght approx 105, which is an increase of 10mm on the radius and 20mm
on the diameter ( am i right in this?? )

so what is the overall increase in rolling diameter going from a 50 to a 55 profile please.
if i am wrong in my calculations.

cheers Daz.

i believe its 5mm - could be wrong - but i've just posted a similar question as i believe that the 190/55 is one of the reasons the rear feels vague and i prefer a 190/50

but then again it could be the 2ct's never used em before - just the front appears planted and the rear appears vague - doesn't inspire confidence

but is your standard fit a 50 or a 55?

i know a 55 is used on track for more ground clearance.

problem for me is if it raises the rear too much it will also raise the seat hight.
bike is already on the tall side for me ( 5ft 8 )

the 04 is supposed to be a 190/50

was replaced with a 55 - thought i'd give it a try and not too happy with it like. but like i say that could also be the tyre profile not used 2ct's before

best tyre to date for me has been the racetecs K1 front K2 rear

Just get the tyres, height issues aside etc you'll be glad you did, SC1 front and SC2 rear is the way to go, awesome tyres, stick like sh*t to a blanket.

the answer to your question about whats the rolling circumference difference is 3.03 % = 19mm between 50 and a 55 profile. and it will change your gear ratio and speedo a little.

shit the only thing you`ll notice is that it will turn in a bit quicker than a 50 profile, no one will ever notice any difference with ground clearance ect.

all modern bikes now use a 55 profile as standard and 50 is on the way out, 60 profiles are the new thing (190/60-17)

a 190-55 is the way to go

just what i thought then Gengis, if rolling circ is 19mm bigger that more or less equals
a 10mm rear ride hight increase, thats prob the reason why they will turn in quicker.

also that increase in ride hight will give more ground clearance.
so your speedo reading will actualy be higher than displayed.
a point worth noting on the road :icon_thumleft:

Isn't the speedo pick-up on the gearbox sprocket? So the tyre change won't affect the speedo reading.

It will, changing the tire will change the gear ratio at a point after the gearbox therefore changing the speedo reading, exactly the same as changing the number of teeth on the sprocket

yes, it should, the speedo healer essentially adds or removes a percentage extra to compensate for the gear ratio difference caused byt he different sized tire/sprocket (obviously it requires setting up)
