depends on how many days you spend in the UK and if over 91 you pay 'normal tax'

I work overseas; best bit of advice I can give you is get a decent accountant who already has clients on his books who work overseas, as he will know the ins and outs of it.

As Andy says, the dreaded 90 day rule applies and your travelling days count as a day in country too  [wall]

you have to work a full uk tax year abroad if you don't want to pay any tax at all when you come back . That means if you go out there now then you will have to do almost 2 years.
There's a good expat community in Qatar and a bike club that do regular trackdays at Losail.

Which GCC country are you going to be working in?

Yes and no to that Andy - there are legitimate ways around that  ;-)

if you're in the UK for 183 days or more in a tax year, you're a 'resident' for that year for tax purposes

The above sentence, does that not mean I can stay in the UK for 180 days as I am going to be a non resident in the UK??

you're also treated as resident if you're in the UK for an average of 91 days or more in a tax year (worked out over a maximum of four consecutive tax years)
Could someone explain the above as compared to the 180 day statement please?

I have spoken to an accountant who I will speak to, and try and sort it out.

Ma heid is mince now thinking about it........lol!!

Resident

if you're in the UK for 183 days or more in a tax year, you're a 'resident' for that year for tax purposes

if you come to live in the UK permanently or to remain for three years or more you're resident from the date of arrival

you're also treated as resident if you're in the UK for an average of 91 days or more in a tax year (worked out over a maximum of four consecutive tax years)

so looks to me like 91 or more and you have to pay like the rest of us  the differenceis a residentand treated as a resident so to me it seems that there is a law and then a bit of rule  bending to bring more tax in ,I'm not complaining as if  it was183 days the money would have to come from elsewhere i.e. me

It's 90 days mate - if you are in the UK for more than 90 days you pay tax. Don't forget days in country also include the day you arrive and day you depart the UK

edit - if there are any tax inspectors on this site this is a blatent joke designed to make me look big, not at all true in the slightest :)
