New R1,this months Bike mag
« on: March 28, 2009, 03:24:25 PM »

Has anybody seen the new Bike mag with all the 1000's in.Fireblade wins,R1 seems to come last, with the new gsxr and the zx10 somewhere in-between.

They don't know what all the fuss is about from MCN,apart from being 10 hp down on the zx10 and the slowest 40-120mph in top, they don't rate the brakes or the handling, saying it feels too bulky.
This was backed up by Performnce Bike who also think the 08 is the better bike.
Lot of nice things said about the zx10 though, so fuck mcn i believe Bike

Hven't seen the write up in Bike mag yet but i seen MCN and couldnt understand why they said the R1 left the others standing. The  performance figures they printed didnt suggest much if any advantage over the Blade or the 10.   :dontknow:

MCN are always pro Yamaha. The company must look after them at the bike launches.

i always think the top gear roll on test is a pointless test who the fuck puts there bike into 6th gear at 40mph?

you dont need to know a lot about bikes to see the new r1 is the best out the bunch, although i dont believe anything the mags say they all talk shit.

The rear of the R1 is "challenging" in the looks department, those pipes don't do it any favours and the numberplate assembly needs ditching before you ride it out of the shop.

I think the point of the top gear rollon is to show which bike is the most flexible, and therefore the easiest to ride on the road.  Remember Clarkson in the Evo FQ?  It took almost 2/3rds of droning up the runway before it finally spun up the turbo and took off, showing it's probably a pain to drive in real world traffic.

Personally I reckon the press are biased towards certain manufacturers based on "perks"....

I loved the fact that Bike mag (which sometimes can suffer from the above) was a dead honest review.  And finally they all seem to be loving the hooligan 10r.  They say its the best balls out fun you can have.

Personally...that R1 is a bit too "new age" for me yet, but I wouldn't mind a test ride to base my opinion on.

i think the whole point is that the new r1 is so useable on the road and its looking that way on the track too im glad that i just ride on track nowadays the only time i have had my 10 on the road is when i took it to be dynoed when my van had broke (on a false plate opps [naughty]) but i couldnt belive how savage it was on the road shaking its head and kicking off every bump i think the matching leather brigade would be faster on a 600 or something alot more linear i like my bikes to be lively but on british roads bikes like the 10 just tie themselves in nots and i think thats why the new r1 will be a big hit alot of ego's with some people who ride bikes and chase power figures.
