The Law / Getting your knee down
« on: May 03, 2009, 10:42:59 AM »

I went out yesterday down into Redditch, home of the famous clover leaf :headbang:

As we usually frequent this area as its prime knee down territory, anyway had a few laps an dicided to head out of redditch towards stratford, i was slowly riding round the last section of the clover leaf, when a police car came flying up the other side of the dual carriageway with all the sirens and lights going, he pulled up and him and another got out by this time luckily i was only doing 50, riding one handed etc and made my way off down the dual carriage way.

Lucky escape  :drunken_smilie:

Whats the law on getting your knee down or repeat circuits of an island, as i don't think its enough for blue lights and sirens etc?

3 circuits is about right
Not sure about the speed limit though as if there is no speed posted then it may be the prevailing limit of the roads on/off  the island.
BUT the highway code says its 30 on any road if not posted otherwise.
Knee down is a no-no as the charge would be dangerous driving or not in full control of the vehicle.
There was a case recently though where the guy got it thrown out as he was an ex-racer and was able to prove that with his experience he was in greater control as the bike was more upright hence bigger contact patch, more aware as he was controlling it better, etc.
Depends on the copper on the day though

Cheers Hammy

Its a grey area, as the clover leaf in Redditch is a intersection of 2 dual carriageways, so its not an island and according to he highway code the speed limit is 70 :icon_scratch:

see attached :icon_thumleft:

Still don't think its worth the coppers arriving with all the blue and too going :icon_shaking: :icon_shaking:

Couple of years ago my mate was pulled doing knee down on a roundabout..... He was given a talking to and was hit with a fine for undersized number plate, but could have been done for dangerous driving!!!

They can do you for dangerous/due care and attention if they are arseholes, which invaribly they are. Personally I think it's a pointless exercise getting your knee down on the road, showboating aside I'd prefer to save it for the track where you know its' done for a purpose rather than a pose.   ;-)

i head over to the cloverleaf often aswell,

have seen the old bill there a few times, its not a roundabout they are slip roads so dont see how they can
have a go at you, also deul track so 70 limit.

the outer slip roads are pretty much shielded from view, but the inner ones can be viewed from the road above.

as hammy says they dont like it, but its hardley the crime of the century is it :dontknow:

thats all knee down is, showboatin!            but its good fun.  [clap]

i was under the same impression of only been able 2 circulate a
roundabout 3 times, but am pretty sure theres no rule of 30mph only!

me and a pal had been talkin 2 a copper, who had seen us playing just as we we're
leavin. he was a biker himself (in car at time) so just spoke of how they do
see it as drivin without due care and attention!

Think it best to keep the kneedown fun for the track, we all know sods law the day you get caught the copper will probably be a full on twat and throw the book at you  :icon_scratch:

I'll stick to chicken strip removal :icon_thumright:
