we should bring back national service to all the services army navy airforce hospital porters firebrigade police refuge collection etc

National service is the way forward

The truth is the armed services wouldnt have the yobs, junkies and any other low life scum that cannot be fooked to do there bit for society/country, we have the best armed forces in the world because people choose to do the job they do. Agreed something needs to be done with these freeloadin wankers but national service would never work in this day an age.

a sort on non combat national service might, 3 yrs of an army style lifestyle but being used to put right the country they live in, maybe if they were set to work in this way and it was a cumpulsory attendance between the ages of 16 &19 unless you went to university they might start showing some respect for the country they live in

 :iamwithstupid:

a way to imporve the world, make every school leaver spend at least 1 or years abroad doing world improving things, partying and learning what they actually want to do with their lives.  Something like irrigation projects for ethiopia, building modest housing for the indian slum dwelllers etc.  Doing this they could learn a good trade and those that want to go to university can consider it a gap year or 2.  If every country int he world did this could you imagine the progress made???.  Also you give them a controlled forum tio go mental meaning when they come back they will hopefully got most of it out their system

BUT i also don't like the role of our current armed forces, being sent into harms way for no appropriate reason with no appropriate long standing orders.  Again keep the training part of the armed services and go the same way as my youth approach for the rest, yes we have to be prepared to defend ourselves(and improve certain parts of the world) but no need to have our guys killed for nothing.

agree with the lot of it.

i realise that some people will loose benefits if the go back to work and earn a wage.
so why cant the ''government'' make them do unpaid 30/35/40 hr weeks etc.
they could work for the council cleaning up parks, hospital duties, sweep the streets etc
and then still get the benefits. now at least they will be doing a bit for society eh :dontknow:

interesting comment there mate - I work in some not nice places and they all see UK as a soft touch and the place to get to so they can have a reasonable life as the government just give handouts  [wall]
