A motorist allegedly clocked at 173mph (278km/h) by police has escaped jail after prosecutors failed to prove his car was capable of such a speed.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/derbyshire/7955457.stm

maybe all we have to do is add a couple of teeth to the front sprocket and run around everywhere at 200mph and say the bike cant do that.

edit - on the other hand having re-read the story they where saying his car which had a top speed of 120 was clocked at 175 and 105 in a 50 limit, personally i woulda challanged the reliability of the detector for both charges

I like the bit about the detection gear been deemed as 'reliable'  [rofl]

how the hell can a car incapable of doing over 130mph be clocked at nearly 180mph with 'reliable' speed detection gear? [rofl]

173 kph is 107 mph, isn't that a suspicious coincidence?  Maybe the driver and the police were right, only they were talking about different measurements.
