I have a little project on the horizon and I'm looking for tips.

I want to spray an undamaged tank in pearl white. The base is good condition and clear laqueuered.
What I would like to do is mask off the original colour (in something like a tribal design) so that once the masking was removed the original colour shows through the white.

I've sprayed a bike before but that was a one colour job which is fairly simple.
I have absolutely know idea about achieving a good, clearly defined design in two colours.
Anybody got any experience they can pass on?

Hmmm, very interesting article.
Definitely picked up a few tips there. But...

What I'm after is how to do the two colour thing. The article is a corker for a "mono" say with sponsors stickers but 2 colours would be a whole different ballgame.

Stuff like:
What sort of tape is best to use as masking to give a sharp edge?
When is the masking removed? (wet, damp, dry? )
Is any more prep required to this coat before laquering?

Reckon I could tackle a straight one coat job but I've always wondered about how to get some kind of design done. Especially where the 2 colours meet.
Dont want airbrushing (you wont find a Harley in MY garage). Nice, neat, clearly defined lines is the order of the day.

A good auto factor should be able to sort you out with fine line tape, 3mm or 6mm wide. Prep the original lacquered finish with grey scotchbrite or 1500 wet and dry. Mask your design onto this. Apply your colour coat and then seal it in with a clear binder. This is just a clear basecoat to seal in your colour basecoat and stop you dragging colour onto your white pearl base when you prep for lacquer. Allow to dry and then remove masking. Give this a light scotch over to key the surface for lacquer and also to remove any ridge along the masked edge. Wipe over with a tack rag and apply a couple of coats of 2 pack lacquer. This will usually be good enough for most people but i like to flat it again with 1500 and lacquer again so you cant feel any ridge where the colours join.

As I'm stuck behind enemy lines (Germany) I would'nt have a clue what to ask for re "fine line tape". (I'm only s'posed to give Name, Rank and serial Number  )
Is there something on t'interweb to show me what the stuff looks like?
If you can find a link I'd have yer babies! (well, I'd buy you a beer anyway  )

I am a computer muppet and not sure how to post a link but have just looked and if you search 3M fine line tape it will show you what you need along with product numbers.
