My missus sold a business and if I remember right it was valued on stock, lease details of premise, closing balance on account at the time of sale, fixtures & fittings in the premise,specific items named,profit/loss forecast based on previous performance, professional reputation and the goodwill. The goodwill is the customer/client base you have built up that in your opinion will remain after you have sold the business and will continue to generate income.
So in short the goodwill, which will be valued by you or your accountant can add a fair bit of value to the business.

but surely with you staying in the industry,I assume, you will take the contacts across with you, in effect transitioning some of the success across  :dontknow:

won't you be using the same suppliers/customers in your new venture   :icon_scratch:
