Treat every customer the way you want to be treated yourself and you will be half way their.people skills
are a must your customer must want to spend his hard earned with you over any one else.as said tecnical
knowledge and a willingness to help the numpty's like me who can  not change a screw etc.a place to meet
friends fellow bikers if they are there already what's easier than pooping into the shop to purchace what you want.
price isn't everything as said but you must be competative, people spend money where they feel comfortable imho

If two neighbouring shops have an item at the same price I would probably end up buying in the shop that also other items I wanted to buy even if it was something  further costing just a couple of quid.  Somehow people feel like they are spending less if the card only comes out once.

It also depends what I was buying, if it was an exhaust system I would also likely want a PCIII, if I was buying a quickshifter I would want a linkage kit, a mastercylinder I would want a reservoir, tubing, fluid etc. If im buying 5 litres of oil I need the correct filter, copper washers etc. If one shop only has the main item even if it is at a matched price im going to use the shop that sends me home with all the bits to fit the said part which are also priced correctly and buy in a one-er.

Customer service, price isn't always everything

Had a similar situation some years ago, we always went to the shop with best atmosphere, DVD playing etc, free coffee, in the summer there would always be loads of people hanging around. On one of the summer saturday afternoon , his wife turned up and lay on a buffet lunch etc superb!!

alright pal - don't know you - but can guess what you're up to!

Biggest things for me, that make me loyal to a shop are

good knowledge of your products
excellent manner - chat about bikes - offer a brew - even have open evening with sandwiches etc
knowing that if a product is not up to the job you will replace it with no questions or gripes
a speedy service - if someone orders a part you dont have in - dont take 3 weeks to get it in, take  deposit - the genuine buyers wont mind that and order it asap...

good luck pal

p.s offer really silly discounts to all members of this froum

cant wait to tell you all what it is, but part of the deal is i keep it to my self till its all complete.

I must say that im sorry to the lads who have made asked for prices on parts, over that last two weeks its been mental!
first my missis granddad died so we where away for a few  days then been busy with this new shop, hence 24-7racebikebitz is almost finished now, but like i say i will explain all over the next few days.

all that and you still managed to send me a set of break lines despite customs being dicks and sending it back to you cause apparently not only are you not allowed to take liquids on hand luggage but apparently you are not allowed to post them either.  well done man  :icon_thumleft:

If I'm looking for a bike I will always go back to the place I've bought my last 3 bikes juts because of the customer service.
They have had the same staff there for the last 3 years and when I walk in they always say hello, even though I don't go there that often, it's juts the fact that they know me by my name and if they don't have a customer with them at that time, they'll just come and talk with you.  Not trying to sell you anything just a general shit shooting session about anything and everything.

When I came back from France last summer I went in to order a new front sprocket for the 636, 2 days later I was picking up the 10, that all came about because the manager came out whilst I was having a smoke and getting my jacket on to leave, 2 hours later I was still in his office and all he'd done was give me some figures for trade in against a new 10 and the one I eventually got.

I won't go back there for service though because they have a bad rep for that, so I go somewhere else where the lads from the garage actually come and chat with you when you book the bike in, not just the service manager.

I use Fowler (nicknamed Fowlups around these parts) to go and try clothes on or have a look at stuff but on principal won't buy anything from them because they have a crap attitude towards the customer.  I spent an hour and a half there when the Gixer 600 K6 came out trying to speak to someone about a test ride on it.  Not one member of staff came up to me despite the fact that they would huddle together around a desk with no customers and it wasn't that busy there.  The crunch came when they came out and insulted me with stupidly low price for my ZZR600.  I rode over to Kawasaki and was on the 636 for a test ride within about 3 minutes and as soon as I came back the 10R was running in the yard for me to take out.

So for me, it's all about customer service and not the type that say, "Can I help you?" but the ones that come up and say something like "nice day, been far?" or somthing similar.  After all, most of the time the customer will go to a shop with something in mind to purchase, so if a staff member comes up and says can I help you, then it's a case of tell them, they get it for you, then you pay and leave.

I know that time is money and all that, however that little bit of extra  interaction with your customers will mean that they will think of you when they next need something because they feel that you put the effort into it.

Good luck with the shop, be interesting to see what it is your getting into.
