You ain't that much taller than me ya northen nutter [naughty]
Anyways nowt wrong with being my height - I'm right at tit height
Just happen to prefer a nice arse as the rest is guarenteed to be good - you can have big tits but the arse and the rest can match

The "playpen" is a fuckin good idea - down here the shops that have free tea/coffee get all the riding schools in there too and most then sell bikes to the newbies.
Plus you can just go and cew the fat with the staff and get he gossip.

Liam, business is down to relationships, find the common ground with someone and talk to them about it ( if you can) kids, family, football ,moto GP what ever and slowly come round to bikes or parts. We get more business this way than cold calling and asking for an oppurtunity to quote on a tour. We build the relationship , the odd call asking how you are and how the family is, how was your holiday, then when it comes round to business they want to call you because it seems that you are a friend. Sometimes talking to them about everything but the subject is the key. Make the person feel like he has all your attention and that he is the most important person in the world to you while you are talking to him.

I know this doesn't translate into your shop A shop B scenario but it does relate, I know I call you often and most times your prices are more than what I can get on line or somewhere else. The last set of calls you were very helpful and next time I need something I'll give you a call again.

Forgive me if I'm wrong but I think I read what your question is, How do you hook the sale.

And yes to all said before this by everyone else, offer that little extra, and become peoples friend or at least seem to be. There are little things that you could offer that don't cost you much money if anything. Quick service or quick turn around is one.

Price is also a main factor in these tight times, lets face it most of us would save money so we can do more trackdays.

The internet has screwed the economy as before if you wanted a car for example you went to the local dealer and had a look at what they had. Now you can look online book a test drive and even have it delivered to your door for teh test drive or for delivery if you have purchased, same with clothes you don't go down to the local shop to buy some jeans you can  buy them anywhere in the world and have them delivered, normaly with in a week.
Tha is something that is very dificult to compete with and it takes alot to offer something that will swong the sale to you.

helpful ? maybe not, just my 2p worth.

i know what your saying there i can "hook a sale" i have no worries there, and this is nothing to do with 24-7racebikebitz.
Its just some thing i have i the pipe line.
I just need feedback on what you guys would like to see from a shop.

Excellent feedback and comments so far guys keep em coming.
I do like the playpen idea that has potential.

Think it has all been said really....I will go to the shop that treated me the best and were friendly etc etc etc. Who would go where you got treated like rubbish if you could get better treatment along the road a bit?    :dontknow:  Not me!

it would be nice if a shop offered a plan your upgrades facility, i.e plan out what upgrades you would be able to afford over a given time maybe a little savings plan to get you to your end point plus a contribution to that plan when you buy other stuff.

just a silly thought maybe, but if you had the right contacts for custom paint jobs etc you could offer it all

also that data would be key for you in organising bulk discounts or if you come up with a special price for something and want to see who wants it

i would suggest that the best way to make people use shop A rather than shop B is to burn shop B down. :icon_thumright:

Reputation is everything, I know of two shops that have good reputation in spades, I also know of another shop that is shockingly bad, this one is only down the road from us, but wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.  One of the good ones is over an hours drive but has staff with good knowledge and good customer skills which is priceless, people will travel to the right place. As everyone has said, burgers, tea etc is good as is the 'play pen' idea, I've seen it in a few shops and it works well. Once people see a large collection of punters and bikes outside it soon attracts the right attention.

Make the shop window display stand out, bright bold and friendly, first impressions really do count!

always think about your potential future customers too, the lads on scooters will buy all sorts of items too for the right money, there's a big market for those lads for cheap exhausts and perhaps fitting too as most wouldn't have a clue about servicing or maintenance, there's a big opportunity there in my reckoning and marketted correctlycould make a few bob
