electric bikes beginning to catch up??
« on: February 05, 2009, 10:30:55 PM »

have you guys seen this electric bike that was sshown a the TED conference, its a bit light on performance details but will do 150, bit ugly tho

http://www.zoomilife.com/2009/02/04/the-mission-one-ev-sport-bike-comes-out-of-stealth-at-ted/

The Mission One will make its race debut at the TTXGP in June and will probably be one of the hottest entries there. With 150mph top speed and a range to match, this bike will fly with the 100 foot pounds of torque it produces.

A special Limited Edition model will be delivered in 2010 with only 50 bikes produced at a $68,995 price tag. A standard and more affordable version will be announced this summer. Likely to be lauded as the Tesla of motorcycles, the company has produced something paradigm-busting, to say the least.

Here are some specs on the power train and performance:

Lithium-ion HE (high energy) batteries w/ integrated safety
Liquid-cooled 3 phase AC induction motor
100 lb-ft torque starting at 0 RPM (up to 60mph)
Single-speed transmission, #525 O-ring chain
150mph top speed
150 miles per charge (estimated)
2 hour recharge at 240v or 8 hours at 120v
Adjustable regenerative braking

Looks like an RC8

Be a tad dangerous though - aren't electric engines supposed to give full torque instantly? In that case i think they need to sell some wheelie bars as an optional extra!   [rofl]

much like a petrol bike the amount of torque would depend on the throttle position so wheelieing wouldnt be that mch worse than opening a 10's throttle full fron start, on a dyno there would be no torque curve just a pretty streight line. the only difference is there would be a very slight drop in max torque as the rpm's increase instead of a marked increase on petrol powered
