Aeronautical day out!!
« on: February 01, 2009, 05:34:39 PM »

hi folks,

ive been over to the RAF museum at RAF Cosford today.
FREE ENTRY!! so good value, have to say myself, wifey and little girl loved it.
very good displays and info, and a good 'Cold War' display.
and to top it off a fine bit of lunch at the canteen on the way out :icon_thumleft:

so if you ever at a loose end on a cold/wet/snowy day i recomend it, if you like
planes etc of course.

Cosford museum located on A41 between Telford and Wolverhampton and
1 mile from J3 M54.

cheers Daz.

Ohh, been wanting to go there for ages - do they still have a vulcan outside? Jjust finished reading Vulcan 607 the story of how they managed to bomb the runway in the Falklands!

Anyone up for going to the show in the summer - going on bikes could be the way to dodge the queues.

no vulcan is inside hanger now alongside victor and valiant.
heard about the book Harv, a friend was telling me how they were routing through
scrap/discarded flying intruments and stuff to get the vulcan up!
amazing considering realy!

well worth it Andy if you ever get the chance :icon_thumleft:

V1 and V2 rockets also there, Spitfire,Mustang,Hurricane etc.
its changed a lot since i was last there (25yrs+).

looks like they had a lottery grant to fund the cold war museum. ( money well spent)
great cafe aswell.
a few guys were on bikes also, no 10r's. bmw's etc.
would be up for a return on the bike in the summer :icon_thumleft:

worth it just for cafe [rofl]

lots of cutaway engines and planes that never got past prototype.
very clean displays etc, they even have a leopard1 mbt in there!!

well worth it :icon_thumleft:

Also RAF Hendon is excellent, lots there, but Duxford is the best, often mystery planes fly past, last time I was there about Sept last year a Spitfire came past, swooped low, victory roll, fantastic, also pleasure flights in Tiger Moths,or Dragon Rapides.Well worth it.Good place to get your fill of our proud English heritage, which we seem to forget.
