Motorway Traffic Officers
« on: January 21, 2009, 08:27:51 AM »

Saw one of those motorway traffic officer vehicles this morning, the green and yellow checkered ones. My question is what powers do they have  ? Just curious as I wasn't doing anything wrong.

Dont think they have any powers to catch you speeding !!!  any way they would have no chance catching a bike in them large Things !!  [whistle]

they can't chase you.... but they do have camera equipment on bored and the evidence can be used to prosecuted.... but as far as I know moving on the motorway they need to have an average over 2 miles so need to be following you ....

but they can arrest you just as I can arrest you..... you just need to remember , that to actually prosecute they need to prove things in a court of law.... so evidence is key... just don't get caught on there cameras doing anything wrong...

From memory it's an offence not to obey an instruction from one of them.. but thats about all the power they have.

not sure of 'powers' but i assume their role is to maintain a flowing motorway thus saving the police from wasted time on menial duties  :icon_thumright:

dont care.................dont listern to either  :icon_thumleft: fuck em

[rofl] why am i not supprised.

I train the Hato;s for my sinns guys.

they are regulated under the traffic act 2004.

In short they have all the powers of the police, FACT...

Although as said by G, they are not tasked at this time to prosecute or pursue speeding drivers.

The vehicles are fitted with ANPR and other & will calculate speed using road marking or cats eye etc and at present the video equipment is being used to calculate traffic volume and driver behavoir.

saying that dangerous driving footage etc is passed to cps for review.

They are also not tasked to arrest  however they will if you obstruct them in the line of duty..  blar blar blar

Most of them are civil servants and ex traffic police, they are not looked upon very good in our industry, but Highways agency are pushing for them to do a lot more.
