Ebay question.
« on: January 19, 2009, 10:27:26 AM »

This is the first time i,ve ever bid on ebay. What i,d like to know is..... can a secret high bid ( which i am notified is beating mine at the moment) be withdrawn at the last minute?

yes it can be and then you would probably get second option, ebay can be a little bit silly sometimes with people artificially increasing the price of their auctions

it can be but not easily....depends on where you are in the bidding process as well...it does give you a bad mark if you do it too often, ie withdrawing a bid...why do you think he will withdraw....have you entered the highest bid you would go to.....this is worth doing to see if you can weedle the guy out of the picture, of course it can make you pay what you think it is worth which may be more than you really want to pay so do make your highest bid the bid you really would pay for it...dont get drawn into paying too much...other items will come along for sure...

Even with secret bidding you can, if you think something is a bit out of place, look at the bids stats of the other bidders involved. It will tell you what percentage of their bids were on items from the same seller. If it is very high you can report to ebay for scrutiny. If found to be using a second account to increase the value of his items they will delete the accounts in question.
