hi all.

been to the bike show today and after going to the california superbike school stand i am thinking of doing it. has any body on here been there and done it and did it help with your bike control?

Yes and Yes. It isn't cheap though especially if you want to do all 4 levels.  Improves your riding control no end, not just by drill and repetion but also by getting you to think about what is happening and why.  It isn't a race school though so if you just want to learn how to lap a track faster then try somewhere else

i'm not worried about it not being a race school, as with better bike control and bike skills the lap times will get better (i hope).
i spent a lot of time onthe bike racing this year and my lap time droped alot, but i think it was just time on the bike so with some proper bike control tuition i'd hope for them to drop again.

if i book any lessons dave i'll let you know.

Watched the coach running through a couple of sessions at the show today. Had some really good advice for road and track riding and clearly knew waht he was talking about.

Would love to do one of their courses ................... espacially somewhere like Jerez or Cataluna. Never know if you'll get the weather on the UK one's !

I did level1 in Dubai , it was a tad warm

i did a quick session at the nec too
he asked what bike i rode and his eyes lit up when i said an'04 10r
he wanted to see my body position for getting my knee down which is no problem but i do
find i put too much weight on my elbows & wrists
he moved my arse BACK onto the seat by about 2 inches which enabled me to bend my throttle arm downwards more
so shifting more weight to my lower body
result! more comfort+more control
gotta change my technique now,bit like a bad habit y've had for years

it's a problem i suffer from as well. Too many years on motocross bikes where you are practically sitting on the tank. One solution is to gaffa tape a large piece of foam to the back of the tank so you cant sit too close. james Toseland used it when he first switched to the Ducati 999 in WSB

What I wouldn't recommend though is doing it the same way I did, the 3 levels on 3 consecutive days, as by day three you're trying to think about & remember to put into practice so many different things & changes to years of deeply ingrained bad habits that it's difficult to absorb even more !

So I'd say do L1 then spend a few weeks or so getting the stuff you've learned sorted in your head by going out on the bike & putting it into practice before doing L2 & the same thing before L3 & L4

Am going to do this also but as i live in Scotland its a bit of a hike.

What track is best for level 1 i was thinking of Rockingham.

The Rockinham track is the best according to CSS. It's just corner after corner, idela for what you are leaning

i agree with R1ninja, the one at silverstone is that smal triangle circuit in the infield area. isnt it

I did it at Cadwell, which was pretty good as lots of varied corners.

One thing to bear in mind though, if you want to ride on their bike with the out-riggers then it needs to be someplace with a decent sized tarmac car-park which Cadwell doesn't have, so I didn't get to play on it.

Lads let me know if you are booking this - would be fun to hook up with you all. I'm going to do level 1 this year, sounds like Rockingham will be the best venue, and I'm guessing reasonably early in the season? April / May?
