Boiler Maintenance Contracts
« on: November 18, 2008, 08:22:44 PM »

Anyone signed up to British Gas HomeCare maintenance plans? http://www.britishgas.co.uk/products-and-services/maintenance-and-repair.html

Are they any good, or is there another alternative?

Dave - one of my business partners had the same query - turns out the Boiler manufacturer that makes the boiler he has also provides a direct home maintenance contract for a fraction of the price that BG wants and with the added benefit that the engineer works for the maker so parts etc are always to hand.

Try your boiler manufacturer first in my view - then a reputable 3rd party then BG as a last resort !

Mark cheers for that  :icon_thumright:  My boiler manufacturer does do a contract but it doesn't include any of the remaining heating system. Local company does one which is the equivalent of BG's one for a bit less...

If your boiler is currently working ok then take something up with the boilers manufacturer or someone recommended and local. If you have a serious problem then sign up to BG for a year.

The British Gas contract will even take you on while your heating system/bolier is totally fooked, all you have to do is sign up for a minimum of one year. After that year cancel and go elsewhere. They will repair any fault and be with you the day you make the call to sign up. First time I have ever experienced a maintenance contract which you can apply to something which is already fooked. My boiler needed two new sensors, a service and a PCB. My Dad is a heating engineer and even he said sign up to BG for a year as the total monthy outlay for the year worked out at less than the price of the parts, plus I now have 12 months cover.

No worries :D

There are some right cowboys around, i was helping my bro replace a wall hung oil boiler this arvo. The idiot who installed it had capped off the prv and someone had left the filling loop open and 4 bar water pressure  had swollen it up like a beach ball !
